An Easter prayer
A prayer today for Christian conservatives celebrating what they believe was the miraculous resurrection of an unmarried Jewish POC who taught love, justice, and compassion—unqualified compassion, not the cruel variety of prosperity-gospel coercive "compassion" preached in their own pulpits—as well as physical and practical care of the poor, the marginalized, the unlovable, the imprisoned, the refugee. Who, in this 21st century America, they'd brand a "radical socialist” if he ever dared to appear in their midst speaking the exact same words they believe he spoke two-thousand years ago. Who defied the nationalist, patriarchal, militaristic superpower of his day, then had the last laugh when, according to their beliefs, after they executed him, he rose from the dead and centred the religion that sprang up in his name in the heart of their empire. Pray that they somehow reconcile the discordance between what they claim to believe, and the reality of their words, deeds, and politics in this life. Amen.
